Sándor Gergely was born on 24th April 1975. Salgótarján, in the north of Hungary. He began to develop a love of fine art, drawing and graphic during his primary school years. His first art teacher was the nationally acclaimed artist Orosz István whose
artworks greatly fascinated him. Orosz’s drawing workshops gave him the basics of graphics and painting.
Following his father’s footsteps, he continued his education in the local technical school where he studied engineering drawing.
Gergely was interested in the fantasy art of Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell and without guidance he began copying the works and techniques of his icons with egg tempera, acrylic and oil.
He was not a prolific painter for years then, enrolled to university and graduated as a language teacher, then pursued a career as a teacher of English in his own language school.
In 2020 he returned to his elements, and for a brief period he studied painting in the Zsilip Art Center in Budapest from Fecskés Bea, then entered the workshop of Gasztonyi Kálmán where he learned the painting techniques of old masters. During this period, he got into contact with several contemporary artists from whom he incorporated different techniques into his own style.
In the following years he turned his attention towards realism and studied the multi-layer glazing style from Cene gál István. He displayed his artworks in several group and solo exhibitions around Hungary. His painting titled “Abandoned” won the Gallery award in the People & Paintings Gallery in New York.
A father of two sons, Gergely now lives in Kazár, Nógrád county with his wife and younger child.
